Kevin Youkilis (Red Sox third baseman: 2004-2012)
Kevin Youkilis was a great OBP guy.. had a sharp eye and knew when to swing and when not to.. this skill was what got him into Major League Baseball. He was so good at it that he was actually mentioned in the 2011 film Moneyball as someone with a great OBP and a high number of walks. On June 24, 2012, the Red Sox knew they were going to trade him, but put him in their game against the Braves for one last hurrah. He went out with a bang, getting a triple. Later, he was traded to the Chicago White Sox.
He was with the Red Sox for eight years and was a big part of their success. He always had a great eye and knew when to swing and when not too. Then, he started hitting for power to make him even more dangerous. While his skills have been declining over the past few years, he was still a true Boston sports leader and one of the fans’ favorite players. Even with his recent slump, you know he’s a solid player with the president of the United States, Barack Obama, is quoted as saying “Finally, Boston I just want to say — thank-you for Youkilis” as he was traded to the team Obama roots for.
We’ll miss you! Youuuuuuuuuk!
